Acrylart

Leaded Window Art is an art form in its own right which borrows from the traditions of stained glass, but is:

  1. BulletCost effective - the acrylic sheet, lead strip and translucent paints used are moderately priced and of excellent quality.

  2. BulletQuick and satisfying - a simple project can be made in a day.

  3. BulletPainless - no cutting required or toxic fumes to breathe.

  4. BulletForgiving - acrylic sheet is unbreakable, light and portable.

  5. BulletUnique - the effects you can create are limited only by your imagination

About Leaded Window Art

  1. Romie is a Nepean based artist who has been producing window art for her home since 1986 and teaching it since 1999. She has appeared on CJOH on Regional Contact and in the Costco Connections magazine, and has taught countless workshops to adults through the Ottawa Carleton School Boards and in her home studio. Her work is in many private homes and several designs are in the Nepean Sailing Club as memorial windows.

  2. Leaded Window Art is a relaxing and therapeutic form of decorative art which borrows from the traditions of stained glass, but requires no cutting of glass or exposure to toxic fumes. The lead strip is applied to pre-cut acrylic sheets with a hand tool and transparent, water-based paints are applied with a paintbrush.

About the Artist

  1. BulletThe interview - At your home to see sample patterns, colour samples and discuss ideas. I will measure the window  and discuss installation with you. The installation is your responsibility, but I am happy to advise. Free standing pieces can be hung from chain or fishing line.

  2. BulletSecond meeting - A second meeting will be scheduled to get your feedback on the pattern and to make sure the acrylic fits the window. I will also supply colour samples of key features or sometimes a miniature of the whole piece.

  3. BulletCost and Payment - A custom piece usually costs between $50 and $100 per square foot depending on the complexity of the pattern, amount of lead and paint involved, labour required, etc.

  4. A deposit is due at the first meeting to cover the work involved in preparing the pattern and as a downpayment on the remaining balance.

  5. A second payment is due on approval of the pattern.

  6. Full payment is due on completion of the piece.

Workshops & Classes

  1. Many people are interested in making pieces such as sidelights  beside a door, transom windows above a door, or panels to hang or place in areas where some added interest is wanted.

  2. Weekly classes are available in my home studio on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1.30 – 3.30. I will advise on patterns and colours, prepare patterns, materials and estimates. You can take advantage of however much of this you need and then come to the weekly sessions and make your piece with my help and supervision.

  3. You can also leave your piece at the studio between classes. Materials and pattern preparation are paid for up front. There is a $20.00 fee for each two hour session.
